TOP Summer Orientation

TOP Summer Program/Orientation

As a condition of admission, all TOP freshman are required to participate in an AOP Summer Orientation. Although the nature of the AOP Summer Orientation varies from year to year, students will be kept abreast with plenty of advanced notice regarding the start date for the Summer Program/Orientation. It is important, however that student check with the AOP department prior to making summer plans as no exceptions will be made for students who are unable to attend the AOP Summer Orientation.

Please Note: This is a residential summer program and participants will not be permitted to go home or use their personal cars until the conclusion of the program (unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian). Also, guests are allowed to visit students during the orientation, but only after it has been cleared by the Program Coordinator. No guests are allowed in the residential quarters of the hall nor are guests allowed to stay overnight. This does not apply to those parents/guardians who are planning to participate in the AOP Parent Orientation.

Incoming TOP Transfer students are encouraged to meet with their AOP Counselor prior to participation in the College's Transfer Student Orientation. The AOP Counselor assigned is a trained professional who will help you, not only through the registration process, but also assist you in matters pertaining to housing, financial aid, and a host of other concerns or questions you might have.

The room, board and fees costs for participation in an AOP Summer Program for freshmen shall fall in the range of $250 - $375 per week. For summer 2020 the costs of attending the TOP Summer Scholars Program will be assumed by SUNY Geneseo.

In preparation for their entering term, TOP pre-freshmen will be  tested in writing, and reading. During AOP Summer Scholars Program, they will also have the opportunity to meet Geneseo's faculty and staff and acquire specific information that could impact their life as a Geneseo student, i.e., public safety, financial aid, housing, and extra-curricular life, etc. Throughout the AOP Summer Scholars Program, the AOP staff will be available to provide personal assistance with a wide range of topics including educational, social, and/or cultural. During the AOP Summer Scholars Program, pre-freshmen will be advised and registered in their fall courses. Over the years this program has been a valuable tool for preparing students for a challenging academic career at Geneseo.
