University Police
University Police staff members work with the community to create a safe environment to live, work and learn. The department is primarily service-oriented, created to meet the specialized needs of a college campus. Services include but are not limited to safety awareness and crime prevention activities, bicycle, foot and ATV patrols, traffic and parking services, property and resident hall access security, emergency first aid treatment, and the maintenance of public order.

University Police officers are responsible for the enforcement of all state and local laws, as well as the rules and regulations of the College. The department provides a sensitive, measured approach to all situations requiring police assistance. Police officers are on duty 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Emergency calls to the department can be made by dialing 5222 or by utilizing one of the emergency blue light telephones located throughout the campus. University Police submit monthly crime statistics to the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services. Campus crime statistics are published annually by the United States Department of Education and Federal Bureau of Investigations in the Uniform Crime Report. For information regarding campus crime statistics, refer to the University Police Crime and Campus Safety - Your Right-To-Know brochure, or visit the web site https://www.geneseo.edu/~police.

Extraordinary Weather

In cases where there is extraordinary weather and there is a concern that classes may be cancelled, communication of the President’s decision to the Geneseo community will be through announcements via the College’s emergency weather messaging media (Weather-L).  Additionally, there will be a “Weather Alert” button on the SUNY Geneseo home page linking to applicable information when extreme weather-related conditions exist. Posts will also be made to Geneseo’s social media outlets, including Facebook and Twitter. NY-Alert may be used in extreme weather emergencies.  For more information on class cancellations and extraordinary weather go to: https://www.geneseo.edu/policy/class-cancellation-extraordinary-weather-conditions-policy.
