Certification FAQs

What pathway should graduates choose in TEACH?

Candidates should wait until they receive their certification recommendation for applying for certification. If TEACH requires candidates to select a pathway, they should choose the Teacher Preparation Program Pathway.

Did my Mandated Reporter training meet the new April 1, 2025 requirements?

If you completed the Mandated Reporter training on or after November 1, 2022, it meets the April 1st, 2025 requirements. If you completed the workshop prior to November 1, 2022 you will need to re-take it to meet the new requirements.

I graduated from the Students with Disabilities program for grades 1-6, how do I extend that to all grades?

You should get in touch with your Regional BOCES Certification Office. They can help you review what you need for the extension.

Why don't my required seminars/workshops show up in TEACH?

Teacher candidates who complete their required seminars (DASA, SAVE, Mandated Reporter) through an educator preparatory program do not automatically have their seminars show up in TEACH. If you need proof of completion for an employer, you can request an official transcript. If an employer requires the seminars to appear in TEACH, you can request NYSED add them by sending an official transcript to NYSED.

How do I request an on-track letter for proof I'm ready to receive my certification recommendation?

Send Chelsea O'Brien an email, and she'll send you a PDF letter in return that you can share with a district or school.

When can I take my exams?

Teacher candidates can sit for their teacher certification exams at any point, we recommend right after completing your content courses. You do not need your exams to receive your certification recommendation, they are two separate parts of the certification process. Please review the certification checklist.
