WRTG 105: First-Year Writing Seminar

Geneseo students fulfill their written and oral communication general education requirements through WRTG 105: Writing Seminar. WRTG 105 is not an English class, but a class focused on the critical reading and writing skills necessary for success in all academic disciplines and careers. Thus, the course is taught by faculty from all departments and each section explores a theme based on that faculty member's expertise.

In each section of WRTG 105, students can expect:

  • A small class size (no more than 20 students) that allows you to get to know your professor and classmates
  • Frequent writing with an emphasis on drafting, revising, and reflection
  • Regular class discussion
  • Generative feedback from your professor and peers
  • Ongoing practice in common academic genres
  • Sustained exploration of an engaging topic based on your professor's expertise
  • Guided practice in developing and pursuing a research question

You can see a list of Spring 2025 section topics here.

If you've transferred to Geneseo, or enrolled with college credit from a dual credit/AP/IB program, and believe you've already taken a class that should count for WRTG 105, please email Claire Jackson, Director of Writing at cjackson@geneseo.edu.
