Welcome! My name is Wiljar Ojuro, and I am honored to serve as a doctoral intern at SUNY Geneseo’s Student Health Counseling Center. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Rochester, School of Warner. Drawing from a robust background in mental health counseling, research, and teaching, I am dedicated to empowering students as they navigate their personal journeys toward growth, resilience, and overall well-being.

In my practice, I strive to create a safe, affirming, and compassionate space where students feel seen, heard, and understood. My therapeutic approach is integrative and evidence-based, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I have a particular passion for ACT, which emphasizes embracing emotions, clarifying values, and committing to actions aligned with one’s authentic self. I believe no single therapeutic approach suits everyone, so I do tailor interventions to meet students where they are, honoring their individuality, strengths, and goals.

I specialize in working with students navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity development, and more. As a doctoral intern, I have experience providing culturally responsive individual therapy and facilitating group sessions, with a focus on creating inclusive and supportive environments. My research and clinical work have focused on resilience, intergenerational trauma, student identity, and addressing mental health disparities in diverse populations. I believe that seeking support is a courageous step, and it is a privilege to assist students in their path toward healing and personal growth.
