SUNY Geneseo recently welcomed more than 40 high school students and professional mentors from across New York State for Camp College, a three-day college-access experience for rising high school seniors. The free enrichment program was coordinated by the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC).

The July 17–19 event brought students from as far away as New York City for weekend college-prep workshops led by a supportive network of school counselors and college admissions staff mentors. Workshops covered topics such as financing your education, finding your best fit, and writing your college essay. Other academic and social events rounded out the weekend.

“Camp College teaches students how to navigate the college search, admissions, and financial aid processes,” says Mary Sasso, executive director of admissions and enrollment management. “Hosting college access programs such as this one reinforces SUNY Geneseo’s vision to cultivate an equity-minded honors college experience.”

NYSACAC is the state affiliate of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling, the only professional association composed of members from secondary schools, community-based organizations, colleges, and universities.
