SUNY Geneseo has claimed a spot in the top 10 public colleges and universities in Fiske Guide to Colleges' top 20 Best Buy Colleges and Universities for 2025. The top 10 public and private schools that made the unranked list are schools that offer "outstanding educational value as determined by academic quality in relation to the net cost of attendance," according to the editors.
According to the guide, "Geneseo is a preferred option for New Yorkers who want the feel of a private liberal arts college at a public-school price. It is similar in scale to Mary Washington and William & Mary in Virginia, much smaller than Miami of Ohio. Offers business and education in addition to the liberal arts and sciences. Less than 5 percent of the students come from outside New York."
In publication for 41 years, Fiske Guide to Colleges annually offers profiles of 320 four-year schools in the U.S., Canada, and the UK. The guide was created by former New York Times education editor Edward Fiske, who launched it to provide better information on educational choices for college-bound students and their families.
