Strategic Initiatives Challenge Grant
SUNY Geneseo has released the Strategic Plan for 2022-2027! A priority of this plan is to expand the SUNY Geneseo experience by expanding our audience of learners and offering new learning opportunities to current and prospective markets.
As we enter the engagement phase of the strategic plan, we are inviting the campus community to propose a range of academic and non-academic learning opportunities and events to enrich current and prospective students, employees, alumni, and the community with a goal of seeking new access to Geneseo offerings. These new opportunities can be on campus, online or at our Rochester satellite location. We are encouraging you to continue to think creatively, strategically, and offer learning opportunities that benefit a wide range of students.
As previously announced, we are now offering a limited number of $2,500 challenge grants to support such efforts in the short term.
Expanding the Geneseo Experience to Rochester
While members of our campus are already familiar with on campus and online programming, with the expansion of new programming, we have the opportunity to extend the Geneseo experience to Rochester and beyond.
Our campus, in partnership with the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center (FWDC), has secured an initial location in Rochester where we can pilot learning opportunities to teach, collaborate, and innovate to meet high-demand sectors. The Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center is a state-of-the-art building in what was formerly Eastman Kodak Co. headquarters. A portion of the building also serves as Monroe Community College’s (MCC) downtown campus. Newly renovated classrooms, labs (computer, robotics, augmented and virtual reality, science), conference rooms, ballrooms, hallways overlooking the Rochester skyline, and much more are available for Geneseo programming opportunities. Tours will be available for members of employees who would like to visit the site.

Awards
The initial challenge grant committee will be awarding 10 winners $2,500 to create and implement learning opportunities at our Rochester location, on campus or online.
Scoring will be considered based on feasibility (including the ability to deliver the new learning opportunity in a timely fashion and potential for scalability), reflection of Geneseo’s mission and values, and alignment with strategic plan priorities. The grant funds will be used for program planning and execution only. Some examples include, but are not limited to, space rental, supplies, food, transportation, equipment, and software.
