New York Governor Kathy Hochul has named Holly Brandow Salatel ’87, ’88 MSEd to SUNY Geneseo’s College Council for a three-year term.
The College Council meets twice a semester and advocates for the College in various ways. The council advises the college's senior administration and provides valuable assistance for problem-solving and identifying sources of expertise beyond the campus community.
“I look forward to this opportunity to serve as a member of the College Council,” says Salatel. “As an alum who never left this beautiful Genesee Valley area and became a lifelong community member of Geneseo, I hope to bring that particular perspective to the table.”
Salatel has served the Geneseo community as a member of the Wadsworth Library Board, the Association for the Preservation of Geneseo Board, and as co-chair of the former SUNY Geneseo Community Advocates.
Salatel spent her entire professional career as an educator, first as an elementary school teacher and then as a library media specialist, in Honeoye and Avon, NY. She graduated from the Ella Cline Shear School of Education in 1987 and earned her master’s in elementary education in 1988. She earned a second master’s degree from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania in 2004, specializing in school library and information technologies.
“My experiences in these facets have given me knowledge of the rich history and importance the college plays in our community at large,” says Salatel. “I hope to support the impressive work on campus with the students, faculty, and staff, as well as play an advocacy role in sharing and promoting all that SUNY Geneseo has to offer.”
