Greetings! I am Dr. Simmons and I am an Associate Professor of Social Studies Education in the Ella Cline Shear School of Education. My research interests include K-12 Black history education and curricula, and antiracist pedagogy. I have explored through several content analyses the ways Black history is presented and conceptualized in traditional U.S. history textbooks and within international context like Canada, Brazil, and Puerto Rico. In the past, I have directed the Ghana Student Teaching Program. I am also a former middle school social studies teacher where I taught 8th grade in North Carolina. I am a native of North Carolina and an avid college basketball fan, Go HEELS!!!
