Bari Zeiger ‘16

Major: Philosophy

Career: Zeiger is the sustainable agriculture coordinator at the Frost Valley YMCA Farm, in Claryville, NY. “The ability to form persuasive, logical arguments allowed me to successfully present a farm intensification and expansion plan to the CEO of the organization I am employed at. In addition, my background in ethical theory and environmental ethics provides a lens through which I evaluate certain methods employed on the farm, especially regarding livestock husbandry.”

Why study philosophy at Geneseo?

Geneseo is a great place to study philosophy: the department is open and friendly, class sizes are small, and majors are encouraged to combine philosophy with other majors.

Courses help students to develop traits for responsible citizenship, such as intellectual humility, as well as skills desired by today’s employers: analysis, communication, leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving. These highly transferable skills allow for career success in a wide range of fields, over a lifetime.

The study of philosophy empowers people to be thoughtful and engaged members of their community.
