SUNY Geneseo’s Department of Theatre and Dance Studies presents the Geneseo Dance Ensemble in Pushing Boundaries, featuring works by student choreographers with 25 performers. The concert is artistically directed and produced by professor of dance studies Jonette Lancos and the dance ensemble's associate director Mark Broomfield ’94 PhD, associate professor of dance studies (on sabbatical 2020–2021).

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is limited to SUNY Geneseo students and employees. The performers will be wearing masks and observing physical distancing of 12-feet. The live program will be presented in the Alice Austin Theatre on November 19–21 at 7:30 p.m., and November 22 at 2 p.m. The event is free, but reservations through the Student Association Ticket Office are required by phone at 585-245-5813, or email at bbo.geneseo.edu. Masks are required for all attendees.

All dances are mentored by the Dance faculty and choreographed by students of the Dance Studies Program. Samantha Bruno ‘21 showcases her work, Impressions. Lauren Hummel’21 presents her work, Of the Essence. Megan Leczinsky ‘21creates Perspectives and Zach Iannotta ’22 showcases his tap piece Fleet-Footed.

Sheltered Spring will be performed by the dance composition class. Abigail Alessi ‘22, Kathryn Berton ‘21, Valerie Groccia ‘22, Madison Harding ‘21, Natalie Knox ‘22, Jillian Serrano ‘22, Marissa Torcello ‘22, Grace VanPutte ‘22, and Kelsey Villone ‘22 will present their final projects using the Elements and Principles of Design as exhibited in selected paintings.

The kinesiology class, consisting of 18 dancers, presents Ball Dance which takes the technique and theory of PhysioBall conditioning beyond exercise and into creative dance.

Pushing Boundaries is directed in collaboration with senior student assistants Samantha Bruno ‘21, Lauren Hummel ‘21 and Megan Leczinsky ‘21. Stage managers are Julia Albino ‘22, Tessa Hensler ‘22, and Jake Rogan ‘22. Theatre faculty Johnnie Ferrell is mentoring student lighting designers Alec Atkinson ‘22, Caleb Doughty ‘22, Madisun Edmond ‘22, Raphael Elmasri ‘21, Tessa Hensler ‘22, Piper Lambert-Vail ‘21, Megan Palmer ‘21, Jake Rogan ‘22, William Snyder ‘21, and Emily Zandy ‘21. Theatre faculty Bonita Stubblefield is mentoring Maggie Parfitt ‘21, Piper Lambert-Vail ‘21, and Megan Palmer ‘21 as student costume designers.
