Rochester Business Journal selected Mary Ellen Zuckerman, dean of the School of Business at SUNY Geneseo, as a 2020 Women of Excellence honoree.

Established in 2018, the Women of Excellence awards recognize high-achieving women for their professional experience, community involvement, leadership, and sustained commitment to mentoring. Winners were selected by a panel of judges comprised of previous Circle of Excellence and Women of Excellence honorees.

Zuckerman was named dean of the School of Business at Geneseo for the second time in 2018, having held the position previously from 1999 to 2008. Zuckerman, a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor, was also the recipient the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service. She achieved a number of administrative accomplishments, including leading the school to initial AACSB-International accreditation, establishing the master’s in accounting program, overseeing two successful economics program reviews, updating the curriculum to add more quantitative and computer skills, and helping to expand international education opportunities.

Zuckerman has written three books and a wide range of academic papers centered on her research in women’s magazines and marketing. She also has presented at numerous academic and industry conferences. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Simmons College as well as a master’s in business administration and a doctorate in history from Columbia University.

“Dean Zuckerman is renowned for her generosity, innovative spirit, and commitment to excellence,” said SUNY Geneseo Provost Stacey Robertson. “She is a model mentor for our students, staff, and faculty. It is a privilege to work alongside Mary Ellen, and I cannot think of a more deserving individual to receive this award.”

“Through their professional accomplishments, community involvement, leadership, and sustained commitment to mentoring, the 2020 Women of Excellence honorees are high-achieving women who are committed to making Rochester the best place to live and work,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, group publisher of the Rochester Business Journal. “We at the Rochester Business Journal applaud the honorees for what they have done and will continue to do for our community.”

Currently, the Women of Excellence awards will be presented September 9 at an awards celebration at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Winners will be profiled in a magazine that will be inserted into the September 11 issue of the Rochester Business Journal and that will be available online at www.rbj.net.
