GENESEO, N.Y. – The Yards for Yeardley walk on the College Green April 26 is among events on campus during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.
The annual walk is a community awareness and activation event across the country to remember former University of Virginia women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love, whose life was snuffed out in an episode of domestic violence. The initiative is meant to support the One Love Foundation’s mission to end relationship abuse by educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships.
The Geneseo event takes place on the College Green from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Geneseo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), working with the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), on the event to raise awareness of domestic and relationship violence.
Among other Sexual Assault Awareness Month events are the annual march to Take Back the Night April 12 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., starting at the MacVittie College Union mailroom, organized by the Womyn’s Action Coalition. The college’s Office of Fraternal Life is sponsoring sexual assault speaker Tim Mousseau April 13 at 6 p.m. in the College Union Ballroom. On April 18, RESTORE sexual assault services will place a flag display on the sloped lawn in front of the campus gazebo. The Title IX Office and Erie Hall are organizing a walk to stomp out sexual assault at 6 p.m. April 19. On April 20, Tim Collins will present his one-man show for violence prevention in Bailey Hall 202 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by student sessions from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Bailey 102.
In addition, the Womyn’s Action Coalition and RESTORE will have tabling sessions daily in the MacVittie College Union from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the coalition will have tabling in H Lot from 10 p.m. to midnight April 19.
