As part of its environmental sustainability efforts, the Center for Community expanded its student recycling program to college off-campus residents this spring.
In collaboration with Goodwill Industries, 4,550 pounds of clothing and housewares were collected and donated to Goodwill at the end of the semester, when students left for the summer or graduated.
The college also has a Tag Sale each move-in weekend in the fall, with items that have been left behind. That has been going strong since 2005 and also offers an inexpensive way for students — and the public — to furnish apartments and homes.
The decreased amount of furniture and other belongings left in front of village residences for curbside trash collection compared to a year ago was noted in the local newspaper, the Livingston County News.
