GENESEO, N.Y. – Leah McGray, director of instrumental activities at SUNY Geneseo, has a busy conducting schedule this weekend with performances by the Geneseo Wind Ensemble March 23 and the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra March 25. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
Geneseo Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble’s “New York State of Mind” concert was rescheduled to Friday (March 23) after it was postponed because of an early March snow storm. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium and will feature music and poetry from New York artists.
This year is the world-wide celebration of the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein, and the ensemble will perform his “Best of All Possible Worlds” with his suite from “Candide.” #BernsteinAt100
Geneseo Symphony Orchestra
The Geneseo Symphony Orchestra performs Sunday (March 25) at 3 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium. McGray has selected Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 for the concert and will feature 2018 concerto competition winners Eric Wand (cello) and Evelyn Welch (violin).
The Geneseo Symphony Orchestra is a collaboration among the best wind, percussion and string players in the student body at SUNY Geneseo and members of the music faculty, who coach, teach and perform in the ensemble. The result is an ensemble able to perform some of the finest literature written for a large orchestra.
