GENESEO, N.Y. -- Leah McGray, director of instrumental activities at SUNY Geneseo, will conduct the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra Feb. 25 in “Mother Tongue,” a concert celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of American composer Amy Beach.

The performance begins at 3 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium and is free and open to the public. The program will include Beach’s “Gaelic Symphony” and also will feature two winners from the 2018 Geneseo Concerto Competition, trumpeter Samuel Dole and baritone Noah Chichester.

The Geneseo Symphony Orchestra is a collaboration among the best wind, percussion and string players in the student body at SUNY Geneseo and members of the music faculty, who coach, teach and perform in the ensemble. The result is an ensemble able to perform some of the finest literature written for a large orchestra.

McGray became principal conductor of the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra last semester. She also directs the Geneseo Wind Ensemble.
