Position Summary              

HIGHLIGHTS

This position supervises 40-100 subordinates, including three or more supervising janitors and is responsible for cleaning and routine maintenance of campus facilities. Incumbent supervises and administers a program of systematic cleaning and care of assigned building areas in accordance with established guidelines.

-Knowledge of the agency’s cleaning and care practices and procedures
-Experience in supervision, equipment procurement and care, product knowledge and use, hiring, and evaluating using performance programs
-Effective verbal and written communication

                     

Required Qualifications              

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must have permanent appointment in Head Janitor, SG-15 classified position, be reachable for appointment on the NY State Civil Service canvass list for Head Janitor, SG-15 or be eligible for transfer in accordance with New York State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

New York State Preferred Lists Candidates have preference.

One year of service as a Supervising Janitor.

                     

Supervision Received              

This position is supervised by the Associate Director of Facilities Services.

                     

Supervision Exercised

Function 1: Planning and scheduling

-Orchestrates staff assignments and cleaning services based on workload and available staff
-Arranges for shifting of personnel in response to emergency service requests

Function 2: Enforce college policy and procedures

-Inform staff of college policy and procedures along with adherence to workplace protocols
-Evaluate staff performance and conduct routine building inspections
-Resolve personnel issues
-Ensure efficient and effective use of time by staff by such means as enforcing  attendance rules, resolving disciplinary problems and meeting established work schedules.
