TEACH Walkthrough

Accessing New York State's TEACH System

  1. Visit the TEACH Online Services webpage
  2. Select Login to TEACH and then create an account and password. Use a personal email address and not your Geneseo email address. You may need a previous program code.
  3. Double check your account creation by logging into the TEACH system

Applying for Certification

Step 1: Verify / update your profile

  1. Log into your TEACH account.
  2. Click on the box that says, "TEACH Online Services."
  3. Click on "Apply for Certificate" under the Online Application heading.
  4. Read the information provided and click "Next" (bottom right) to continue
  5. Click the "Edit Education" box.
  6. Provide your college education information using information from Teacher Certification Info.
  7. Once submitted, this cannot be edited.
  8. When finished, click the "add" box (bottom right).
  9. Confirm that your education information is accurate by clicking the "next" box.
  10. Read the information provided.

Step 2: Select Certificate(s)

  1. We strongly recommend waiting to apply for your teaching certifications until you've received confirmation that your certification recommendations have been submitted.
  2. Enter the program code found in the Teacher Certification Program Code Chart.
    • For dual certification childhood candidates, select either certification area first . You will complete this process twice (one for childhood and one for early childhood or teaching students with disabilities). Applicants must go all the way through and sign their affidavit for one certification BEFORE they can select their second certificate.
    • Adolescence Science candidates, you will complete this first in your content area (major) and complete it a second time, selecting "extension" as the subject area and "General Science" as the grade level. Applicants must go all the way through and sign their affidavit for one certification BEFORE they can select their second certificate.
  3. When finished, click "Submit" then "Next."
  4. Under Review Type , select "I want my application to be reviewed by the State Education Department."
  5. Click "Next."

Step 3: Sign & Pay

  1. Read and answer the questions that follow under the headings: "Certification Regarding Child Support" and "Moral Character Determination."
  2. When finished, sign the affidavit by clicking the "Sign Affidavit" box.
  3. Read the next page and sign the application by clicking the "Sign Application" box.
  4. You will be taken to the checkout section and prompted to make a payment ($50 per certificate).
