Individualized Studies Major: Design Your Own Major

Through the individualized studies major (ISM), students have the incredible opportunity to design their own major, creating a Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) that is ideally suited to their educational goals. For more information, check out the individualized studies major proposal process and see examples of ISMs.

Individualized studies majors must:

  • Include courses from two or more disciplines (prefixes) to create an interdisciplinary major that doesn't already exist.
  • Include an integrative and applied learning capstone experience.
  • Be developed in collaboration with the Center for Integrative Learning and the provost's office.
