Why study sociology at Geneseo?

The sociology major emphasizes scientific and humanistic approaches to exploring economic and political institutions, culture, media, family, urban life, families, crime, and other aspects of social life. Graduates pursue advanced study in law, social work, sociology, criminology, community planning, and other fields, or move directly into careers including social and human services, criminal justice, personnel and industrial relations, teaching, research, planning, and public policy.

Sociology majors who develop their basic skills will position themselves for a wide range of jobs and be well-prepared to adapt to changing opportunities.
