SUNY Geneseo is one of the nation’s most environmentally responsible colleges, according to The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges: 2024 Edition.

The Princeton Review chose the schools for the guide based on its survey of administrators at 680 schools about their institutions’ commitments to the environment and sustainability, including dining options, policies, and more. Surveys of students attending the schools were also considered. The company’s editors analyzed survey data points to select the 522 Green College schools.

Geneseo has had a long-standing commitment to sustainability. Geneseo's President’s Commission on Sustainability was established in 2012, and the College formed the Office of Sustainability in 2014. The sustainability studies major was launched in Fall 2021. Students, staff, faculty, and alumni are involved consistently in a variety of sustainability initiatives, which can be viewed on the college’s award-winning interactive storytelling map. Six campus buildings have earned certification from the US Green Building Council, including Red Jacket dining complex, and have incorporated geothermal wells and rainwater collection in some buildings. Geneseo has appeared on the Green Colleges list more than 12 times.

Profiles of recognized schools on the list also provide information about the schools' admission requirements, cost, financial aid, and student body demographics (see Geneseo's profile). The Princeton Review has published its guide annually since 2010.
