Geneseo is introducing a new history master’s degree, available to students beginning in Spring 2024.
“Geneseo’s history MA program offers a flexible and innovative curriculum that allows students to expand their knowledge of history and explore their career ambitions,” says Justin Behrend, professor of history and graduate program coordinator. “Through rigorous research, engaging discussions, and critical analysis, students will develop essential skills in historical interpretation as well as highly transferable skills that graduates can apply in various professional fields.”
Behrend says the program provides a firm grounding in historical content and public engagement and offers advanced training in United States and global history, with courses in five continental areas (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America). Students can pursue a thesis or an internship in consultation with their advisor.
The new program features the flexibility valued by both full-time and part-time graduate students. The 32-credit program can be completed in three full-time terms, with courses offered in the fall, spring, and summer. During the academic year, courses are offered in the late afternoon or early evening. Graduate assistantships are also available.
