The Addiction Counseling & Prevention Program at Geneseo offers a variety of resources and services for SUNY Geneseo students.

Services Available

  • Provide evidence-based practice in the treatment of addictive disorders
  • Offer education on trauma and addiction psychopathology
  • Enhance understanding of addictive family systems
  • Educate students using a harm reduction model
  • Create personalized addiction plans for students to address patterns and create safer strategies
    Implement and evaluate prevention programming and outreach on campus
  • Offer support services for students impacted by a friend or loved one's addiction
  • Facilitate outreach programming

Appointments and Referrals

  • Individual consultations for students to discuss any addictions concerns or other mental health needs. To request an appointment, use the "Request a Counseling Services Appointment" option through your My Health student portal.
  • Referrals to OASAS-approved off-campus treatment providers (for more information, see the SAMHSA website).

Mandated Appointments

If you have been required to take ScreenU or Choices:

For students who have been referred for a mandated appointment by the Office of Conduct and Community Standards, contact Pam Kosmowski at pkosmowski@geneseo.edu or 585-245-6060.


Support Groups

S.M.A.R.T. - Self-Management and Recovery Training 

This walk-in group is designed to provide support and assistance to students who have struggled with their substance use, either currently or in the past.

Day/Time: Thursdays, 5 p.m.
Location: Onondaga 203 South
Virtual Attendance Option Available

L.O.T.U.S. - Living Optimally Through Understanding and Support

This walk-in support group for students impacted by someone else's (family member, friend) substance use. This is a safe space for students to connect, relate over shared experiences, and begin to heal.

Geneseo’s commitment to student welfare extends to its concern for how you and your friends socialize. Learn more for tips to help keep you safe from substance use and sexual assault. If you choose to socialize with alcohol, make sure you’re well informed about its effects, including alcohol's interactions with other drugs. The Safe Party site includes resources for students who attend or host parties, plus transportation and legal information.
