Love Physics? You Belong
Welcome! We are glad that you have chosen to study physics at SUNY Geneseo! The faculty and staff of the department of physics and astronomy would like you to know that we are 100% committed to fostering an environment where all students can thrive, regardless of gender, gender identity, race, sexuality, ethnicity, disability, or religion. Our goal is to make sure that everyone feels included and respected in our department.
As physicists, we are all incredibly proud of the many contributions that our discipline has made to society and to our understanding of the universe over the years. However, we are also profoundly ashamed of the sad and painful history of deeply rooted and long-standing structural racism and sexism in our field. This injustice continues to plague us, and has caused countless individuals to have their growth as physicists limited or to leave physics altogether. Recognizing that this has hindered our discipline, we affirm the fundamental truth that physics, like all human endeavors, works best when all feel included and respected.
Therefore, the faculty and staff of the department of physics and astronomy ask you to join us in our efforts to eliminate all unjust biases, large and small, which have prevented people from achieving their full potential as physicists. We must all work together to effect positive change.
