Homecoming at SUNY Geneseo Sept. 27-30

GENESEO, N.Y.—Geneseo Homecoming Rocks is the theme of this year's Homecoming at the State University of New York at Geneseo, which will run Sept. 27-30.

Homecoming festivities will include a shopping cart float competition; parade; reunions; art exhibits; theatre, music and dance and performances; athletic competitions; and the annual Sports Hall of Fame dinner.

Wednesday, Sept. 27:

The Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery in Brodie Hall will display an exhibit titled "Class Act: Faculty in the Studio" from noon-8 p.m. The show features new work from the college's School of the Arts faculty Doug Anderson, Julie Cardillo, Patrice Case, Dan DeZarn, Toni Hill, Tom MacPherson, Carl Shanahan, Luvon Shephard and Mike Teres. The exhibit runs through Thursday, Oct. 5. This exhibit also will be open from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29.

Thursday, Sept. 28:

An opening reception for a new exhibit will go from 5-7 p.m. at the Lockhart Gallery in McClellan House, 26 Main St. in the village of Geneseo. "The Women of Geneseo Exhibit: Town and Gown in the Era of Susan B. Anthony" runs through Oct. 27.

The School of the Arts and VegSOUP will present "The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told" by Paul Rudnick at 8 p.m. in the Robert Sinclair Theatre in Brodie Hall. Friday, Sept. 29:

Events will include an All Alumni Homecoming Kick-Off Party from 8:30-11 p.m. at the Mall at MJ with entertainment by the Rochester band Reporter. Tickets are $7 per person which includes light refreshments and a cash bar.

Michael Minery's Tapaholics will kick off the college's Limelights & Accents series. Minery and his dance ensemble of self-proclaimed "tapaholics" take the stage and find the addictive rhythms in everyday sounds. Stunning a cappella numbers share the spotlight with musical numbers ranging from jazz to disco to pop and classical to gospel. The performance will be held at 8 p.m. in the Wadsworth Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for Geneseo students; $12 for faculty, staff and alumni; and $15 for the general public.

Saturday, Sept. 30:

The Homecoming Parade will start at 11 a.m. with a shopping cart float competition. Geneseo students, faculty and staff will decorate Wegmans shopping carts and then march them in the parade. The carts will be judged not on how fast they go through the village but on these categories: best overall, best use of theme, most colorful, most school spirit, most entertaining and best campus department. Teams will begin decorating their starts at 9 a.m.

From 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. the Friends of Milne Library will host the School of Library and Information Science Alumni Reunion. In addition, the class of 1981 will participate in its 25^th reunion from 1-3 p.m. and the class of 1996 will host its 10^th reunion from 5-7 p.m. at the Mall at MJ.

At 6 p.m., selected former Geneseo athletes will be inducted into the college's Sports Hall of Fame during a reception and dinner. This year's honorees include Daniel Keane '95 (basketball), Megan Mackey '98 (basketball), Lynn Hamilton Simmons '91 (basketball), Paul Duffy (former hockey coach) and Al "Buzzo" Bruno (wrestling, legend). Fireworks will cap off the evening at 10 p.m. on the college's athletic fields.
