Geneseo Symphony Orchestra Concert to Feature Piano Soloist

GENESEO,
N.Y. – The first dean of the State University of New York at Geneseo’s School of the Arts, Jonathan Gonder,
will be featured piano soloist at the Geneseo
Symphony Orchestra’s concert Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium. The
performance is open to the public without charge. Conducting the orchestra will be James
Walker, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor of Music and Head of Instrumental
Activities at the college.
Gonder will play during the orchestra’s
performance of Liszt’s “Hungarian Fantasia.”
He was appointed Geneseo’s first dean of the
School of the Arts last fall. He
received his doctorate of musical arts in piano performance at the University
of Michigan, where he studied with renowned pianist Gyorgy
Sandor.
Also on
the program are R. Vaughn Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis,” and Stravinsky’s “The Firebird Suite.”
