THURSDAY, MARCH 8:
LEDERER GALLERY: The Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery in Brodie Hall presents "Excellence in Action: Juried Student Exhibit." Guest
jurors judge student submissions for excellence. The gallery is open from
noon-4 p.m. Sundays-Wednesdays and 5-8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays. The exhibit
runs through Thursday, March 8, and is free and open to the public. For more
information, go to http://lockhartgallery.geneseo.edu.
LOCKHART GALLERY: The Lockhart Gallery, located in the McClellan House, 26 Main St.,
Geneseo, presents "Girl Power: The Supremes as Cultural Icons." Relive the 60's celebrating one of the
most important and influential of American music groups, The Supremes. This collection, amassed by SUNY
Geneseo alum Tom Ingrassia '74 includes original photographs, records, record
covers, films, trade ads, newspaper and magazine clippings and promotional material
and follows The Supremes through their first attempts to "make it" as
teen-agers to worldwide fame in just a few years. The gallery is open from
noon-4 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and noon-8 p.m. Thursdays. The gallery will be
closed for the College's spring break, March 10-18. The exhibit runs through
Friday, April 13, and is free and open to the public. For more about the
exhibit go to: http://www.geneseo.edu/news/nrap.php?pg=Supremes.Geneseo.html.
KINETIC GALLERY: The exhibition entitled "Altered States" features the
work of Rochester-area photographer Betsy Phillips and is an exploration of the
full range of photographic media as well as "the transient nature of time
through the effect of time on man-made surfaces." Featuring photographs which
resemble abstract paintings and mark the passage of time on tangible materials,
Phillips' work looks at how "Objects and their parts deteriorate at different
rates and in different ways, leaving sometimes interesting results, as the
objects loose their original character and purpose. They become bent, frayed,
fragmented and distorted and can be viewed as new creations." The exhibit, on
display in the Kinetic Gallery, located in the MacVittie College Union, runs
through Tuesday, March 20. Gallery hours are 12-4 p.m. weekdays and 12-2 p.m.
weekends. The gallery is free and
open to the public. For more information, email kinetic@geneseo.edu.
