CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR MARCH 18-24

THURSDAY, MARCH 18:

FILM: The International Film Series presents the film "The Quiet American." The film is in English, French and Vietnamese with English subtitles. Love, politics and intrigue intermingle in a retelling of Graham Greene’s classic tale of a disillusioned British journalist, an idealistic young American, and the beautiful Vietnamese woman who comes between them in 1950s Saigon. The discussant will be Communication Professor Dougie Bicket. 7 p.m., International Cinema Center, Guy A. Bailey Hall Auditorium (135). Free and open to the public.

LECTURE: Dr. Eric Cornell, a winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics, will speak as part of the American Physical Society’s Division of Laser Sciences Distinguished Traveling Lecture Program and the SUNY Geneseo Robert Sells Lecture Series. The lecture is titled "Stone Cold Science: Bose Einstein Condensation and the Weird World of Physics a Millionth of a Degree from Absolute Zero." 7:30 p.m., George D. Newton Lecture Hall, Room 202. Free and open to the public.

LEDERER GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery, William A. Brodie Hall, presents the Livingston County High School Exhibition. The gallery is open daily from 2-4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Friday, March 19.

READING: The SUNY Geneseo Literary Forum presents editor and author Liz Rosenberg, director of the creative writing program at SUNY Binghamton, to deliver a reading. 7 p.m., William A. Brodie Hall Gallery. Free and open to the public.

FRIDAY, MARCH 19:

CONCERT: The School of Performing Arts presents a Piano Series by Joseph Dechario. 8 p.m., Wadsworth Auditorium. Free and open to the public.

LOCKHART GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Lockhart Gallery, located in the McClellan House at 26 Main St., Geneseo, presents an anthropological exhibition by Ellen Kintz, professor and chair of the anthropology department at SUNY Geneseo. The exhibit is titled "Tropical Paradise and the Realities of Yucatec Maya Life: A Photographic Memoir." The gallery is open daily from 2-5 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Friday, April 2.
