CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR MARCH 24-30

THURSDAY, MARCH 24:

FILM: The Alan Lutkus International Film Series presents the film "Code inconnu: Récit incomplet de divers voyages (Code Unkown)." An Arab immigrant confronts a thoughtless young man who has just shown disrespect for a Parisian street beggar. Quickly, this simple act of decency reverberates throughout Paris in both positive and negative ways, showing the complex forms of interconnectedness in modern European society. Starring Juliette Binoche. In French, Arabic, Malinka, Romanian, German, English and Sign Language, with English subtitles. Discussant: Mark Denaci of the art department. 7 p.m., Bailey Hall Auditorium (135). Free and open to the public.

LOCKHART GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Lockhart Gallery, located in the McClellan House, presents "Celebration of the Oaks." This exhibit will showcase collections of works of art from the Genesee Valley dealing with images of the oak tree. Works in the exhibit will include representations of the venerable oak by such legendary artists as luminist painter John F. Kensett; photographer Ansel Adams; Virginia Daley, a painter based in Washington, D.C.; and regional luminaries Richard Beale, Kent Diver, Donna Kelsey, Guy LeClair, Sally B. Moses, Will Wadsworth and Dante Thomas Zachinini. The "Celebration of the Oaks" exhibit is being held in conjunction with the Genesee Valley Conservancy, a non-profit conservation organization devoted to the preservation of open space within the Genesee River watershed and adjacent agricultural areas. The gallery is open daily from 2-5 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Monday, March 28.

OPUS GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Opus Gallery in the MacVittie College Union presents Amy Bocko’s Senior Show. There will be an opening reception from 4-6 p.m. The gallery is open daily from 1-5 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Sunday, April 3.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30:

LECTURE AND BASH: SUNY Geneseo is launching an annual event in memory of a true Geneseo legend, the late Rose M. Alent, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Comparative Literature. The inaugural Rose Alent Faculty Lecture and Bash will be held at 4:15 p.m. in the Alice Austin Theatre, Brodie Hall. Distinguished Teaching Professor of History William R. Cook will deliver his lecture "Confessions of a History Geek." Immediately following the lecture, a reception with food and refreshments will be held in the Mary Jemison Dining Center. Free and open to the public.
