SUNY Geneseo to host Hurricane Katrina
documentary filmmakers on Oct. 30
WHO: SUNY Geneseo's Africana Studies and the Office of the Provost
WHAT: Campus
presentation of "Belly of the Basin" – a powerful documentary centering
on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina told through the voices of ordinary
citizens. Filmmakers Roxanna
Walker-Canton and Tina Morton will lead a discussion and Q&A afterwards.
WHEN: The film will be presented at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, followed by a reception for the filmmakers from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
WHERE: "Belly of the Basin" will be presented in Newton 202. The reception with the filmmakers will be held in the Lockhart Gallery at the McClellan House at 26 Main Street, Geneseo.
WHY: "Belly
of the Basin" focuses not only on the destruction of
homes and buildings but on the emotional and physical loss of home that the
survivors have had to cope with since Hurricane Katrina struck on August 29,
2005. Filmmakers Roxanna Walker-Canton and Tina Morton will lead a discussion
and Q&A after the viewing.
