SUNY GENESEO TO PRESENT MUSICAL COMEDY, "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM"

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo will stage the theatrical musical comedy "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" in the college’s Alice Austin Theatre, William A. Brodie Hall, with performances at 8 p.m. from Wednesday, Nov. 12 through Saturday, Nov. 15; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16. Tickets are $7 for the general public; $6 for faculty and staff; and $5 for SUNY Geneseo students. Tickets may be reserved by phone at (585) 245-5833 or purchased in person at the Brodie Ticket Office.

Written by Stephen Sondheim, Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, "A Funny Thing…" is based on the comedies of Roman playwright Plautus. It follows the adventures of Pseudolus, a happy-but-sometimes-not-so-lucky slave seeking to gain his freedom by securing the lovely virgin Philia for his owner, Hero. These and equally colorful characters sing, dance and romp their way through a plot as intricate as it is hilarious.

This co-production of the School of Performing Arts, Musical Theatre Club and Student Association will be directed and choreographed by SUNY Geneseo Associate Professor of Performing Arts Randy Kaplan. Working with Kaplan, in addition to a cast and crew of talented Geneseo students, will be Professor Jack Johnston, as conductor and musical director.

For more information on this production, contact its director, Randy Kaplan, by phone at (585) 245-5806, or by e-mail at kaplanr@geneseo.edu.
